The History of the World Airline Road Race
In September of 1982, the inaugural World Airline Road Race was held in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. The event drew in 300 runners who representing 30 airlines. "A good time was had by all" and the group's chemistry indicated that WARR was on the road to permanent success! WARR '82 initiated us to the complexity of promoting a major international event. We knew that we must expand and adopt a 12-month preparation philosophy to ensure a first-class event. Thus, a small, hard-working group was formed to deal with absolutely every detail of WARR. This group became known as the International WARR Committee. WARR has grown in prestige as well as in numbers each year; we now average more than 2,000 participants at our events.
