ABOUT THE EVENT
The World Airline Road Race is an annual run/vacation event that enables participants to fully experience various worldwide destinations.  Whether you are a runner or not, it is an opportunity to vacation in popular tourist destinations, meet new people from around the world and enjoy many of the very special social events and parties that take place during the week. For the runner it is a chance to compete with participants from around the world in the 5K and/or 10K run. 

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
Everyone (that means airline employees and anyone not employed in the airline industry) All are invited to join in the FUN of the 27th annual World Airline Road Race, taking place this year in Ottawa, Canada.  Most of the attendees are from the airline industry but in recent years the World Airline Road Race has attracted a growing number of non-airline participants as well.

 

THE WARRtering HOLE

The WARRtering Hole will be your hospitality room during your stay in Ottawa. Located in the host hotel’s Café 101 Lounge, it will be a place to stop by and socialize with old friends and give you an opportunity to meet new ones. Airline lists will be posted with names of all participants. A message board will be available for contacting friends and making team announcements. Information regarding WARR 2008 special events or attractions will be posted. The WARRtering Hole will open at 1100 hours on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, and hours of operation will be posted thereafter.

 

 

MEET & GREET

Be sure to be in Ottawa on September 4th for an unforgettable WARR 2008 Meet & Greet Party.  Join your fellow WARRiors from around the world as they party the night away and kick off the festivities for WARR 2008 in the Panorama and Pinnacle rooms located on the 26th floor of the Crowne Plaza Hotel.  From this location you’ll be treated to a magnificent view of the Nation’s Capital, including the Parliament Buildings, the National Gallery of Canada, the Ottawa River leading to Gatineau Park and the Interprovincial Bridge leading to Quebec.

T-SHIRT SWAP PARTY

The traditional Get-Acquainted/T-Shirt Swap Party will be held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, on Friday, September 5, 2008, and is one of the big highlights of WARR week. This pre-race PARTY is an opportunity to renew friendships from previous WARR’s, make new acquaintances, and swap mementos, memorabilia and t-shirts with friends from around the world. Don’t miss this famous social event!

 

GALA AWARDS DINNER

Enjoy a great dinner while PARTYING to the theme of: It’s a Wonderful World.  

There will be plenty of music and dancing in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, International Ballroom, the host hotel on Saturday, September 6, 2008. This is always a SOLD-OUT WARR event, so get your tickets early. Who knows, maybe this is the year you will take home an Award.

RACE DAY  - Saturday, September 6, 2008

10K     09:00 - Queen Elizabeth Drive along the Historic Rideau Canal

5K       10:45 - Queen Elizabeth Drive along the Historic Rideau Canal

 

The Start & finish, is on Queen Elizabeth Dr, right under the Laurier St. Bridge

 

Chip time ranking system will be used for time keeping.

5K walkers should maintain a minimum pace of 10 minutes per kilometre.

THE ENTRY FEE COVERS

Entry to Hospitality Room (WARRtering hole) - WARR 2008

T-shirt - Participation 10K and/or 5K races - Entry to Meet & Greet Party, Entry to T-shirt Party - Contribution to local charity - Lasting friendships from around the world.

 

 

 

 

 

 

ENTRY FORM AND REFUNDS

Because of the size of the volunteer staff, and our desire to keep fees down, we are not able to acknowledge the receipt of your entry form.

 

Registration can also be made on line by clicking on the eventsonline.ca icon on the WARR website www.worldairlineroadrace.org

 

The 4 and 5 September entry fee at the registration desk is CAD 60.00.

Cash only.

 

If your entry is received by Thursday, August 27th you will receive a free souvenir T-shirt if you attend the event.

You are eligible for the souvenir shirt only if you attend at Race Kit Pick Up to pick it up. If you do not pick up your race kit, you are not eligible for the souvenir t-shirt. 

 

There is NO Race day Registration.

Entry fees & Dinner fees are non transferable.

Due to the extensive financial commitments we must make, we are unable to refund race entry, Cruise or dinner fees.

 

REGISTRATION & RACE PACKAGE PICKUP

You may pick up your t-shirt and registration package at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Joliet/Frontenac rooms during the following hours:

Thursday, September 4th at 1000 – 1200 hrs / 1400 – 1600 hrs

Friday, September 5th at 1000 – 1200 hrs / 1500 – 1800 hrs / 2100 – 2200 hrs

Photo ID is required to pick up Race Packs, Boat Cruise and Banquet Tickets.

The WARR 2008 Headquarters Hotel is the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The Crowne Plaza Hotel would like to offer World Airline Road Race competitor’s special WARR rates. To check rates and reserve a room, WARR participants can visit the WARR 2008 website. The Crowne Plaza phone number is 1-800-227-0963
